Rottweiler Training – My Personal Experience With Raising One

Rottweiler training is probably one of the hardest tasks that I have accomplished in my life. I first got Bentley when he was a little pup, against all the advice that I got about rottweilers being one of the hardest dog breeds to train. There is really so much to think about with any dog especially rottweilers not to mention training, healthcare, and food.

Common Problems With Untrained Rottweilers

It was hard at first and there was a lot of dedication I had to put into it, but I will tell you now that training my rottweiler was all worth it. Bentley is now around two years old and he is completely trained.

I have friends who tell me all the time the troubles they are having with their rottweilers destroying furniture in their house, barking excessively at random hours in the night (especially after a bathroom break), and they were also unable to take their rottweilers for a jog without having it try to break away from the leash.

Failed Attempts At Rottweiler Training

I was nervous after hearing these experiences about how my own rottweiler would turn out so I decided to begin early with training him to be obedient. There were so many aspects of training that needed to be addressed (potty, crate, obedience, aggression, house, socialization but I no idea where to start. Rottweilers are very energetic when they are puppies and turn out to be very inconvenient. Bentley was peeing uncontrollably around the house and my couch was torn apart after one week of having him at home.

An Example Of A Well Trained Dog

Bentley is now completely trained such that I never have to worry about him doing anything that would cause me any trouble or require me to clean up after him. My neighbor has a German Shepperd and he and Bentley often play together and have become almost like siblings. I have bought an indoor potty tray for him and he always makes sure to go before sleeping and before we leave the house so that I don’t have to worry about a pooper scooper at all. Bentley obeys the commands I give him but he knows that I am not ordering but rather treating him with a sense of respect.

How To Train A Rottweiler

Obviously as I am sure you have probably tried giving your rott commands but they don’t seem to understand a word you are saying. I created this site hoping that I could share my experience with rottweiler training and provide rotty owners with the methods I used and which worked when training Bentley. The information can sometimes be a bit overwhelming because it walks you through every single aspect about your dog from training to health care. However, just take it a few pages at a time, and you can always take a break from reading and watching the videos to play with your rottweiler (my favorite sections were the home made dog food recipes and security training).
